Help Build Communications with Government Officials

 Government Officials Database Project

We want to fight against the legislation recently passed and purposed that directly undermine Airsoft and the community’s efforts to enjoy our sport our way, but what will truly solve the problem? Understanding and communication. We must learn to understand those who legislate against our interest, so we can help them understand our position and communicate effectively just how their actions hurt not only us but also the industry. Mutual understanding supersedes conflict of any magnitude.

Already, legislators in multiple states (e.g. New York, Massachusetts, and Maryland) have proposed bills prohibiting imitation firearms that do not meet distinct cosmetic appearances that will, in some cases, cripple the Airsoft community and industry (like the plugged barrel requirements of New York’s pending bill S7656 of 2015-2016 Legislative Session). We need to reach out to the officials working on these bills before they pass them. That means now. With this in mind, we have decided to help bridge the gap between our community and the government officials at all levels (Municipal, State, and Federal) playing key roles in the development of the legislation damaging our interests by creating a database that eases our struggle to communicate with them. In this database, we will include the names, positions, phone numbers, and other details as seen in the template below, but we need your help to amass this vast amount of information in a time frame that will truly benefit us. Although speed is important, we must prioritize the accuracy and quality of our information above all, so check your information across multiple sources, check for typos, and dig for details.

How to Help

You can help by supplying us with who represents you from municipal to state to federal with all the needed information (see example template below for what to provide) in the comment section or by downloading the Excel spreadsheet above (under the title) adding to it, and then emailing it back to us. The best states to start with are the HOT states, those with pending legislation (e.g. Massachusetts, New York, and Maryland), and the cities that influence the state government the most.

Google and other search engines offer a great way to find this information, but it can get really confusing especially if you do not have a place to start. We found these websites helpful when collecting the information for Massachusetts in the example template below (Local, State, and Federal). As you discover more informative sites, please share them in the comment section. We will as well.

ABOUT US

The RSSA is a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization that is based in Washington DC and was conceived during the California call to action on SB199. It was formed by the leaders, principals or owners of Airsoft Megastore, American MilSim, Evike, Pyramyd Air, Soft Air USA (Includes Cybergun, Palco and Spartan Imports), Valken, Umarex (Elite Force) and Xtreme Airsoft. Over time we intend to increase the board representation as our reach expands.
